RIGHT BRAIN ::: Satori Wanted

My birthday is coming up next month and my excitement over it is through the roof. Phooey.

When people start keeping mum about their birthdays, it only means they're approaching that point where flimsiness can no longer be attributed to youth. It just wouldn't be right.

Then again, it's not as though adults follow the biological inevitability either. As it is, we see the rudest acts of selfishness from folks who freely dispensed what they believed was their wisdom. Wisdom!

While I wait for my satori in Manila, I can just take pride in the fact that I share my birthday with these two world-famous individuals:

"The Jazzman. A man whose instrument holds special powers over womenfolk," says Bono. Adam Clayton!

And....

The Donald, the one without the combover! Although Disney factbooks say his b-day is in June, i think that's being too technical. Donald really has the same birthday as mine. Want proof? Go watch "Donald's Happy Birthday" and you'll see for yourself.

U2 ::: Bono Brown-nose

I don't mean anything with my title other than to comment on how this caricature rendered his Irish nose.

In continuing with my U2-centric posts, I'm sharing this cartoon which appeared in today's paper, editorial section, and I've been trying to find out why they put it there. Really odd. He hasn't really made any news in the past few days and neither did any article mention him. And the caricature isn't even new as the date says "8-1-05". If any of you guys know the specifics of this piece of drawing, be a doll and let me know about it, 'k?

So the band has begun Vertigo 4 and are making their way through Latin America at the moment. *sigh* I am with you in spirit.

Oh yeah, happy Valentines Day to all those who love, love, love.

U2 ::: Who did you expect?

The world is U2.
Wooh! Hey, Lawrence you could do a lot better than that face, old boy.

Being in a band is like running away with the circus...and I'm the minister.

I can't stand the beats. I'm askin' for the check!

Let's go back to my entry from December and do a lil inventory.

1 Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal? Check.

1 Best Rock Album? Still a check, yeah.

1 BEST Rock Song? Checkity check.

1 Song of the Year? Czec!

1 ALBUM OF THE YEAR! You know it.

OK, all accounted for. How about coming to Manila sometime this year? Waddya say? *dead silence*

U2 ::: Stones Leave AP Pining for U2's Halftime

I didn't catch the Superbowl halftime show yesterday. Then again they haven't exactly been hiring must-see acts. What brought on this post about the halftime show is an article by the Associated Press in this morning's paper. It pretty much said that the Rolling Stones fell short...of U2.

"But unlike U2's performance four years ago at the Super Bowl, their [the Stones'] set was not an example of a band at its peak rising to the majesty of the event."

The writer, whether he was a fan or not, couldn't have said it better. It's rare for any band to give a TV performance as solid, as inspiring, as patriotic like that of U2's. And they weren't even Americans.

FLAK ::: Good Evening, World. We are the Philippines.

By now, everyone should have heard about what happened at the ULTRA this morning. The whole incident is very sad on so many levels that I don't think I can even gather my thoughts about it properly to even relate how I feel. And international news carriers were only too quick to deliver this tragic news to the rest of the world. Like tonight, I was flipping through the channels and saw foreign news channels with national flags I couldn't recognize (and, mind you, I do care to know) were showing footage of people at the site weeping. What a way to end your life. What a way to gain international attention.

So it came to pass that the Peso broke the 52 mark to close at 51.9 to the Dollar yesterday. La-di-da! You know, I'm probably the only one who's even bothered to blog about that bit but I don't care. It's just that I've been following the exchange rate--without any direct involvement whatsoever--since I was 14 years old. While I am certainly not earning American money nor do I have relatives abroad sending me greenbacks, you could say it's something of a confidence-booster for me whenever I hear that our beat up local currency is starting to get off its ass. Yes, I'm always on the lookout for things to be happy about. Even if it's only money.
